The National Planning Commission (NPC) has presented a certificate of recognition to prominent businessman Napoleon Dzombe for his contribution towards the urbanisation drive and tourism sector development.
NPC Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Manager Jennifer Mjuweni presented the certificate at Dzombe’s state-of-the-art Kalipano Hotel in Mtalimanja Village, Traditional Authority Kayembe, in Dowa District.
Mjuweni said the certificate, signed by NPC Board Chairperson Richard Mkandawire and Director General Thomas Munthali, is in recognition of Dzombe’s dedicated championing of the implementation of Malawi 2063’s pillar three of urbanization and tourism.
“We, as a commission, are running this initiative called Malawi 2063 Champions. The idea behind it is to recognise Malawians that are making very substantial contributions in different sectors across the economy, more specifically based on the three pillars and seven enablers of the Malawi 2063 vision.
“So we came all the way from Lilongwe to recognise Prof. Dzombe’s massive work especially around the pillar of urbanisation and tourism. What Prof. Dzombe has achieved is very commendable especially considering that he is doing it all alone. There is a lot of activity going on here. There is a massive hotel and other developments which make this place ideal for tourism,” Mjuweni said.
Dzombe said he was excited that his efforts to contribute towards the country’s development were being appreciated.
“I am very happy that NPC’s coming to show appreciation for what I am doing for this country. The recognition of my contribution to the country’s development is indeed a wonderful thing. But success is not a one-man show. It is a team of people coming together to do the right thing,” he said.
Dzombe then called on State entities to help in the smooth operation of businesses by speeding up provision of services.
“How can we be successful when government entities do not help us in time? When you apply for licences, duty waiver or ask for other services, sometimes it takes long for them to grant an approval. How does one become successful in business with such delays? I therefore appeal to these entities to work with speed in helping people who want to develop the country,” he said.
Dzombe is also building an agricultural produce factory at Santhe in Kasungu District, besides other big investments in Lilongwe and Nkhotakota districts.
