Play Football Academy incorporates females

Play Football Malawi, through its Zikomo Foundation, has taken an extra step in its efforts to develop domestic grassroots’ football.

The academy’s Head of Communication and Public Relations, Kennedy Zakochera, said they want to form seven squads for girls’ football teams.

“We would like to ensure that we are balancing the teams and make sure that the girls also go through the same developmental stages as the boys in order to compete the same way as the boys,” Zakochera explained.

Currently, the academy has an Under-14 girls’ football team.

The institution is recruiting players for the team, which will be competing in women’s football competitions.

The Foundation operates community football academies in Likuni Township and Lingadzi in Lilongwe.

Both academies have seven squads for boys’ teams aged eight, 10, 12, 14, 17, 20, and a senior team.

Zikomo Foundation has other social projects such as Banana Cup at Kachere Juvenile Prison, Kamuzu Central Hospital children’s ward, Crisis Nursery of Ministry of Hope, aid package for the elderly and diabetic children at Mtandire.
