Police arrest murder suspect

Police in Mangochi have arrested two men who are alleged to have killed and buried in a well a herd boy before walking away with two cows.
Mangochi Police spokesperson, Roderick Maida, confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.
Before the arrest, Maida said one of the two suspects had been on the run after his friend was earlier arrested in connection with the same.
“In September last year, the two suspects, identified as 24-year-old Ajilu Mdala and 19-year-old Yusufu Alick, connived to kill a herd boy with an intention to steal two cows which he was attending to. The two successfully stoned the boy, Malola Saini, to death. Thereafter, they threw him in a nearby well before walking away with the two cows which they sold to unknown people,” Maida said.
The police publicist said, the following morning, one villager discovered the boy’s body in the well.
A postmortem showed that death was due to severe head injuries caused by stoning and penetration of a brunt object.
After investigations, police arrested the first suspect, Alick, in September last year while Mdala was arrested yesterday after he had been on the run since committing the crime.
Yusuf is from Mikochi Village, Traditional Authority Makanjira while Ajilu comes from Malunda Village, Traditional Authority Mponda, in Mangochi District.
Maida said the two suspects will soon appear in court to answer a murder charge, contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code.
