Police arrest murder suspect

Police in Thyolo District on Monday arrested 35-year-old Arthur Mdala, who is suspected to have stabbed his former girlfriend to death in Lilongwe on Saturday.

The incident happened in Chilinde Township when the suspect visited his ex-girlfriend Mirriam Siula.

It is said that the suspect asked the victim to go and fetch drinking water for him. When she came back, the suspect stabbed the woman on the forehead and the chest.

After the incident, he fled and police had been hunting for him.

Lilongwe Police spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula has confirmed that the suspect was on the police wanted list.

“We have been tirelessly hunting for the suspect and we sent messages asking for people in the country to give us a tip-off wherever they see the suspect. Following the move, we heard from our colleagues in Thyolo District that they are keeping him in custody after villagers tipped them off.

“Police at Goliati Unit managed to arrest him [Mdala] on Monday. As I am speaking, Kawale Police [officers] are on their way to Thyolo District to get him so that he should answer charges of murder here in Lilongwe,” Dandaula said.

The crime attracted a lot of attention on social media with people describing it as gruesome.
