Police arrest suspects involved in a series of robberies
Police in Blantyre on Friday arrested suspects alleged to have been implicated in a series of robberies including one that left a police officer dead.
Sub-Inspector Yohane Mbutao was shot dead during a robbery that saw MK6 million was stolen from OG plastics in that took place on 24th October 2015 in Maselema, Limbe .
Deputy Commissioner of Police, John Nyondo said extensive inquiries were made after the robbery leading the police to locate the alleged suspects.
“We are a strong team, we are a strong team, and we are on the ground to make sure we deal with any crime. We have strong team in Blantyre and there is no room for criminals in both Blantyre and Lilongwe.”
Nyondo however failed to disclose how many suspects have been arrested and if they have been charged of any crimes.
Limbe Police recovered a Toyota Altezza vehicle and Nissan Note vehicle presumed to have been involved in criminal activity.
Apart from the vehicles, police also recovered items from a BCA Hills home, where the suspects were based. The items included furniture, electronics, and luggage – worth millions of kwachas.
“It is strongly believed they are the same criminals in the robbery and that these items were a result of criminal activities,” Nyondo said
The deputy Commissioner further said there will be no room for criminal activity in the country.
