Police are investigating a man suspected to be a Democratic Progress Party (DPP) cadet who was seen with a gun on Sunday during the launch of K10 million football, netball and bawo trophies by DPP Director of Operations, Ben Phiri, in Thyolo District. The picture of the man wearing a DPP-branded t-shirt and showing a gun which he holstered has gone viral on social media. National police spokesperson, James Kadadzera, acknowledged seeing the picture but said they do not have a lot of information regarding the person. “I have also seen the picture on social media but I was a bit busy so I did not follow it up. We will investigate the issue because not everybody can have a gun in the country. We will have to find out how he got it, whether it was licensed and why he was brandishing it in public,” he said.
