Police Orchestra serenades Inkomazi

Police Orchestra on Friday treated fans at Inkomazi in Zomba to an exciting performance that underlined their seriousness in music.

The last time Police Orchestra had its own gig was in 2016 and, upon its return, it made sure it did not disappoint.

On a cold night, the show failed to pull a huge audience but those who came enjoyed the concert which started as early as 8pm.

Hosted by Chanco Community Radio presenter Gracious Mulinga, the show attracted performances from acts including Owen Chirwa, Scolar Ntande, Ndindi Mally and Zomba Vibrations Band.

Mally, as a guest artist, also proved his prowess as he excited people with his reggae songs and on the list included ‘Inu Amayi’, a track that raised his profile.

Featuring, among others, Edward Kadango on drums, Andy Kamangwa on lead guitar, Ntande as lead vocalist and Francis Chipofya and Harrison Kajawo on keyboard, Police Orchestra raised the tempo of the concert as headliners.

Kamangwa, who is the band leader and composer, led the band in dishing out songs such as ‘Okwatira Amakonzeka’, ‘Ulanda’ and ‘Pamudzi Pano’ whereas Ngalande offered ‘Upite’ and ‘Ndani Sanachimwepo’, among others.

Malawi Police Orchestra Director of Music Pitt Mankhambira hailed people for the support during the show.

“We are motivated with the support received. This is just the beginning as we have plans to perform in different areas in the country,” Mankhambira said.

One of the patrons, George Mwanjomo from Chikanda, said he enjoyed the show.
