Police’s conduct at Busy Signal show riles Lucius Banda

The conduct of some police officers, who were hired to offer maximum security during the Jamaican artist Busy Signal show has irked musician Lucius Banda popularly known as Soldier.

Lucius through his Impakt Events hosted Busy Signal at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe last Saturday where the Jamaican artist came on stage late but performed for a long time.

Lucius, who is also a Member of Parliament, took to his Facebook page hitting at some police officers saying their conduct would do much damage to the industry.

“The only problem which I feel will kill this industry is the conduct of most of the police officers who are hired to police the shows,” Lucius said.

He alleged that for some time, they have observed that some police officers come not to work during shows but to make money by letting people in, “after they receive a small embarrassing amount, which they use to get drunk and just watch the owners of the event struggle in vain.”

He said that they do all this and get paid a hefty allowance.

“After all is said and done, who polices the police?” questioned the musician.

Some people concurred with Lucius’ sentiments hitting at some police officers for their conduct while others defended them saying Impakt Events also failed to put up a proper security and thus should not only blame the police.

Lucius and team have been hailed for bringing back Busy Signal, who performed in the country for the second time but some quarters bemoaned the Jamaican artists delay in coming on stage as well as problems of sound, hassles during entry and security.

The show was part of a fundraiser for the Sand Music Festival to be held next month and will also bring Jamaican artists among others.

Busy Signal, who was treated to a colorful reception on arrival in the country, left on Monday.

Lucius indicated that they have been receiving calls from big artists’ managers worldwide congratulating them for the organisation, marketing and treatment of the international acts.

“A lot of managers from Jamaica, UK, US, Nigeria and South Africa are calling to get us to host their artists here. Thank you my fellow Malawians for the support,” he said.

Meanwhile there has been a discussion on the social network concerning the Busy Signal show and Sound and Light concert organised by Entertainers Promotions as to which one of the two lived up to the billing.

The two shows happened on the same weekend in Lilongwe but some quarters have called on the organisers not to look at competition during such initiatives but work together for the betterment of the arts industry.
