Powertex Limited has said the firm remains committed to bankroll the K5 million worth Powerstart Tayale Top 8 Cup despite delays to kick off the competition due to Covid.

The company launched the Southern Region Football Association competition on July 22 last year but the race did not start due to the suspension of sporting activities in the country as a result of the pandemic.

However, the company’s country manager Itayi Chidzero admitted that their budget had been affected following delays to kickstart the competition.

“By the time we were planning the competition in February, we had tentative figures covering for the expected duration. Following Covid’s strike, we had to revise our budget. But we will not let that worry us. We are still geared to bankroll the competition,” he said.

Chidzero said Powertex deliberately designed a top eight cup to instill the spirit of competition.

“We feel teams that are not in top eight will be working hard to make it into the top eight. Similarly those in the top eight will work hard to maintain their slots so as to qualify for the cup,” he said.

The motor vehicle battery and solar panel suppliers unveiled the trophy at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre, last year and it will attract Premier and Division One teams, with each league contributing top eight sides.
