New Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Top 8 trophy sponsor, Powertex Limited, has demanded fiscal discipline as the only condition for continued support.
The motor vehicle battery and solar panel suppliers unveiled a K5 million trophy at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre Tuesday.
The trophy will attract Premier and Division One teams with each league contributing top eight sides.
Powertex managing director Itayi Chidzero said having operated in the country for seven years the company has decided to give back to the community hence demanding financial discipline.
“We are new in football but we have high hopes that things will work out for us as well as our partners. So we demand prudent discipline and not things that will end up tarnishing the good image of our company. It is only through that we promise to stay,” Chidzero said.
SRFA chairperson, Raphael Humba assured the sponsor that the association will tirelessly work to safeguard the sponsorship.
“I am a proud man today to give you yet another sponsorship by Powertex Malawi Limited which we will jealously safeguard. I want to assure you bwana [Powertex managing director] that all the money you have put into this Top 8 Trophy will be handled by professionals and your company will get mileage from this sponsorship,” he said.
Fam president Walter Nyamilandu also hailed Powertex for choosing football as the right platform to advertise.
“All the companies that came to football have never regretted their decision to sponsor football. We had Arkay Plastics, Chitetezo Mbaula and now Rab Processors they all can bear witness on how much mileage football sponsorship can give,” he said.
