PPDA suspends director general, deputy

The Procurement and Disposal of Asset Authority (PPDA) Board has suspended the authority’s director general (DG) Elias Hausi and his deputy Ireen Mulewa with immediate effect.
According to a statement from PPDA, the decision has been made by the Board of Directors, which has also appointed Timothy Kalembo as acting DG with effect from December 24 2020.
When contacted, the authority’s spokesperson Grace Thipa was mum on reasons for the suspensions.
“I can confirm that the two have been suspended with immediate effect and the board has also appointed Timothy Kalembo, who was Assistant Director responsible for regulatory review, as the acting DG but the reasons for the suspension will be communicated in due course,” she said.
Hausi was appointed as PPDA DG in 2018 while Mulewa came to the authority earlier during the same year as acting DG.
Since the Tonse Alliance-led administration took over power, some government departments and agencies have seen top officials being suspended or their contracts not renewed.
