Presidential netball trophy draw Wednesday
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) will hold a draw for Presidential netball national trophy finals on Wednesday ahead of the game’s throwoff in Blantyre Thursday.
Nam general secretary, Carol Bapu, said they expect all participating teams to witness the draw at Blantyre Youth Centre.
“It is important to attend the draw to witness that it has been done in a transparent manner,” she said.
The Presidential finals were shifted from last week following the death of netball legend, Connis Mhone, who was Civonets and Malawi Queens Under-21 coach.
Mhone died last week Monday at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe after succumbing to cancer. She was buried at her home in Nkhata Bay last Wednesday.
Bapu also disclosed that they will observe a minute of silence in honour of Mhone before the throw-off.
Twelve teams will fight for the championship whose prize money is K4 million. Runners-up will get K2 million with the third-placed side pocketing K1 million.
Complex Tigresses are the defending champions, and they are up against Kukoma Diamonds, Complex Tigresses, Thunder Queens, Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets, Mafco Sisters, Lameck Queens, Mimosa Queens, Alliance Capital Stars, Prison Queens, Green Eagles and Young Sisters.
