Press Cane aids Chikwawa communities
Malawi’s leading ethanol producer, Press Cane Limited last week handed over classroom blocks and a kitchen worth about K22 million to communities in Chikwawa district.
The two projects were done concurrently by the Press Corporation Limited subsidiary as part of its philanthropic endeavor.
At Dyeratu Primary School, the company constructed two modern class room blocks which were also furnished with desks.
The company has also upgraded a kitchen and a stores room at Chikwawa District Hospital with plans to install new state of the art cooking machines soon.
Manager responsible for operations at Press Corporation Limited Christopher Guta said the drive is part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility for this year.
“We believe in giving back to communities and this is part of our initiative this year,” he said.
He said, meanwhile, the company is pleading with government for a removal of duty on the machinery such as electric pots it intends to import and install at the kitchen.
The hospital’s cooking pots have not been functioning for the past months.
DC for Chikwawa Bester Mandere said the district is pleased with the gesture as it will help ease both health and education problems faced by the communities.
