Press Trust pumps K6.8 million into health sector
Press Trust has handed over K6.8 million to three facilities including Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Wing at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Mzimba District Hospital and Medical Council of Malawi (MCM).
A cheque of K3.35 million was handed over to Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Wing, K2.9 million to Mzimba District Hospital and K600, 000 to MCM.
Trustee of Press Trust, Nancy Tembo, said there is need to address some of the critical needs of mothers to eliminate maternal health problems.
She said this can help government to achieve the third sustainable development goal (SDG III) that aims at ensuring healthy life and promoting well-being for all ages.
“The Trust is passionate about safe motherhood and it is therefore no coincidence that we are making donations to organisations that help maternal health in Malawi. Together we can work towards eliminating maternal health problems and hence assist government to achieve the third sustainable development goal that aims at ensuring a healthy life,” she said.
President of Chatinkha Maternal Care Support Frank Taulo, said the donation will go a long way in curbing maternal deaths.
He says the equipment that has been donated will help doctors t o do their work bet ter.
“This is an amazing contribution. The equipment that they have bought will go a long away in helping our women,” he said.
The equipment includes two suction machines, two autoclave machines, one oxygen concentrator and two patient monitors.
Press Trust also said it will construct and equip two maternity facilities in Karonga and Dedza.
