FOR A GOOD CAUSE—Chitsulo interacts with people at the centre

As part of celebrating her birthday, which falls on January 1, gospel musician Princess Chitsulo on Wednesday donated assorted items to Chikondi Disability and Orphan care in Ndirande, Blantyre.

The ‘Petulo’ and ‘Nyimbo Yanga’ creator flanked by partners such as activist Victor Chipofya, donated the items worth over K700,000 through her Princess Chitsulo Foundation.

She also fed people which included children and the elderly.

Her donation at Chikondi Disability and Orphan Care comes barely a week after she hosted an All White Night Worship at Golden Peacock in Blantyre.

“I hosted an All White Night Worship which was also part of generating funds to support my foundation which has lots of programmes including a feeding project unfortunately we did not realise enough. But still more with the little that I got, I had to do something hence coming to Chikondi today,” the singer said.

She said she wants to use her talent not only to minister the word of God but also bring about change.

“My background tells it all. I grew up as an orphan and it took others to help me to reach where I am today hence taking up this role using my talent to reach out to the needy. It is not that I have enough but the little that I have, I share,” Chitsulo said.

She said through her foundation which is based in Machinjiri, apart from the feeding project, she also pays school fees for needy students.

“As a country, we need to work together to support the needy. As a foundation, we need partners to help us reach out to more needy people and various centres like Chikondi,” she said.

During the donation, Chitsulo also interacted with the children and others, listened to their stories and sang with them.

“I also thought it wise to celebrate my birthday with the needy. My birthday falls on January 1 but instead of celebrating it on my own, I thought of celebrating with the needy at Chikondi,” the singer said.

Chikondi Disability and Orphan Care owner Josephine Mussa hailed Chitsulo for the gesture.

“This is not the first time she has been here. She always supports us and we are so thankful for this. We are in need of a lot of things and this will go a long way in assisting us. We have orphans, persons with disability and the elderly among others,” she said.

Mussa said she started the centre in 1997.

“I had a child who was disabled and after she passed on, I decided to continue this cause to support persons with disability, the elderly and orphans among others. For now, I would say we have 18 orphans but we want to reach out to more,” she said.

As Chitsulo was interacting with the centre, Gift of the Givers had also come to support them.

The gospel musician whose previous albums include Sindilora and Nyimbo Yanga also took advantage of the All White Night Worship to record live her album titled Nsembe.
