Professionals for joint efforts on Malawi 2063

Professional bodies in the country have been urged to deploy concerted efforts on the national economic development agenda as per the dictates of Malawi 2063, the country’s long term development blueprint.

Experts from the legal and accounting fields say their role remains critical towards attaining aspirations embedded in the document.

Speaking during the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam) dinner in Blantyre recently, Malawi Law Society President Patrick Mpaka said the document points to a nation all Malawians aspire for, hence the need for professional bodies to work together to contribute effectively.

“I think it is an important strategy for the country, considering that we are planning for 42 years away. We need to come together to put our voices together so that we are contributing,” Mpaka said.

Icam President Phyles Kachingwe said collaboration between professionals from various disciplines remains crucial in meeting the aspiration.

She reiterated the need for continued capacity-building and tallying training requirements in line with the national development agenda.

“We are serving Malawians and all of us, as professionals, have a role to play to achieve the goal. If we work together, we can take this country to greater levels,” Kachingwe said.

The Malawi 2063 aims at turning Malawi—one of the poorest countries in the world— into a middle-income economy which is wealthy and self-reliant.
