Professor Timpunza Mvula laid to rest
People from all walks of life Monday converged at Mkutu Village in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kamenyagwaza in Dedza District to bid farewell to the departed distinguished academician, Professor Enock Timpunza Mvula, who passed away on Friday, February 19 in Ntcheu.
The funeral ceremony was attended by a cross section of people who included fellow scholars, politicians, traditional leaders and Times Group Managing Director Leonnard Chikadya.
In his eulogy Chikadya, himself an Impi (adviser) to Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V, gave a detailed account of Timpunza Mvula’s glittering history.
“The man sleeping here was the bedrock of the Ngoni culture and, on top of being an Impi, he authored several books chronicling the travels and history of the Ngoni. Some of the notable publications to his name include a book titled IsiNgoni published in 2010 which was a tribute to the vision and crusade for the Ngoni cultural renaissance as espoused by the late Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani IV. He also contributed towards the editing of the Coronation Magazine of Inkosi Gomani IV,” Chikadya said.
In his prime Timpunza Mvula worked as a lecturer at the University of Malawi’s Chancellor College and Malawi Adventist University. He also once served as Personal Assistant to former head of state Bakili Muluzi.
Timpunza Mvula is survived by a wife and five children.
