Prophet gets 12 years for defilement

The Chisenjere First Grade Magistrate Court has sentenced 28-year-old ‘prophet’ Samuel James to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for defilement.

First Grade Magistrate George Chimombo meted out the sentence after convicting James, who is from Hiwa Village, Traditional Authority Chekucheku in Neno District, of the offence.

The court heard that, in August 2019, James, of Path to the Everlasting Life Ministries in Lirangwe, impregnated and later married a 15-year-old girl contrary to the Laws of Malawi.

The judgement was delivered through a duly- constituted mobile court at Lirangwe Police ground, allowing the community to actively participate while sensitising them to dangers of violence against children.
