Purpose, formerly Purple C on Friday released a gospel track titled ‘Mawu’.
This is Purpose’s third track after transitioning from secular to gospel music.
The artist shifted from secular to gospel last year after receiving Jesus Christ.
His first release since turning gospel was ‘Resignation Letter’ before dropping his second ‘Refuge’.
Purpose said ‘Mawu’ is a testimony of how Jesus found him in a broken place, turned his life around, gave him an identity and blessed him.
The track was produced by Zambia-based Church Ulukuta and features backing vocals from Nkumbu and strings from Kenny Master.
He said that although his message in the songs has changed, he has not lost his groovy melodies.
“The smooth groovy melodies that people know me with are still there and I will continue to deliver these smooth songs,” Purpose said.
Born Albert Mhango, Purpose has been heavily inspired by several genres in his music including reggae, country and dancehall.
Signed under Abstract Records, he won multiple awards such as Best New Artist, Best New Video of the Year and Best Dancehall Act in 2017 and 2018.
His other songs include ‘Heart’, ‘Not at All’ and ‘Hot Lika Sun’.
He said people can access his song on www.purposemw.com.
