Queens date Barbados
Malawi national netball team arrived in Australia on Sunday ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games’ kickoff.
The Queens have a chance to analyse their strengths and weaknesses before the Games as they face Barbados in a test match.
The Queens’ Physical Fitness Trainer, Griffin Saenda Junior, said the team was determined to impress after finishing third during the four-team Taini Jamison Trophy, which concluded on Saturday in Auckland, New Zealand.
“The team is improving and it was good that we took part in the Taini Jamison Trophy because it gave us a chance to assess ourselves. We feel that the team is improving and we will get better during the Commonwealth Games,” he said in a Whats-App interview.
According to the Games’ website, the organisers, Malawi has been selected to participate in the rehearsals scheduled for April 4.
“This opportunity provides to test competition management procedures, sports presentation and scoring, timing and results technologies in a full match environment. Official GC2018 volunteers and technical officials will also be present to assist with match proceedings,” states the website.
During the Taini Jamison Trophy, the Queens defeated Fiji 78-45 and 67-52 as they settled for third position behind champions, Jamaica, and second-placed New Zealand.
Malawi lost to Jamaica 65-55 and New Zealand 75-42. The Queens have now lost 12 games and won twice in all competitions since last year.
