Queens look up to Joyce Mvula

By Mphatso Malidadi:

Malawi national netball team hopes Manchester Thunder shooter Joyce Mvula would provide the spark required in Vitality Netball World Cup, which throws off in Liverpool, England, Friday.

Mvula, who is recovering from a knee injury, did not feature in Quad Series in Cardiff, where the Queens finished behind the hosts Wales.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary (GS), Carol Bapu, said the team was struggling because it was missing its top players, including Mvula and Melbourne Vixens shooter Mwawi Kumwenda.

“We are playing without our professionals but other teams have full squads,” she said.

The former Blue Eagles Sisters shooter (Mvula) missed Malawi’s defeats to Wales 52- 47 and England 57-44 as well as the Queens’ victory over Northern Ireland 53-37 and Trinidad and Tobago 53- 52.

The Nam GS also hinted that Mvula would likely be part of the squad that faces New Zealand in a 2019 World Cup opener.

Mvula got injured during the last Superleague game for Thunders on their way to win the title.

She has enjoyed an incredible season after winning two club awards as well as being voted as Skysports fans’ player-of-the-year.
