The Malawi Queens are expected to go into camp in Blantyre this weekend to start preparations for the Netball World Cup set for Sydney, Australia.

Queens coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa has named familiar faces in the 20-member squad that recently took part in the Netball Diamond Challenge in South Africa.

According to the Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) general secretary, Carol Bapu, despite the controversy surrounding New Zealand-based Tactix shooter Mwawi Kumwenda, the former Kukoma Diamonds player has been included in the team.

Senior players, including captain Carol Mtukule-Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, Joana Kachilila, Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango and Sindie Simtowe are also in the team.

Bapu was optimistic that Queens coaches would make the most of the time before the team leaves for Sydney.

“It is not a secret that we are facing financial problems. However, we are trying our best so that the team should go in camp to start preparations. It is our hope that the coaches and players would make the most of these days,” she said.
