Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League leaders, Kukoma Diamonds and rivals Tropical Queens, renew hostilities at Blantyre Youth Centre this afternoon as the battle for points reaches an exciting stage.
Diamonds want to cement their lead to enhance their title defence.
For Queens, defeat would throw spanners into their title aspirations as they lost to both Diamonds and First Choice Tigresses in the first round.
The defending champions top the table with 26 points from 13 games whereas Queens are third with 22 points from the same number of games.
Diamonds won the two teams’ first round encounter 38-22 and are hoping to repeat the feat.
Queens Coach, Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji believes it would be a tricky match as both sides are desperate for victory.
“But we will throw everything into the game. We have good players who are eager to fight tooth and nail,” Mkwanda-Nsinji said.
In this encounter, the mentor will bank her hopes on captain Joanna Kachilika, centre Thandie Galeta, shooter Emily Jere and defender Martha Dambo.
Diamonds Assistant Coach, Noel Mussa, said they were determined to preserve their perfect record to retain the title.
“Our goal is to defend the title with our perfect record intact. So we will work extra hard to achieve our goal,” Mussa said.
Diamonds will rely on shooter Alinafe Kamwala, defenders Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda and Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira to carry the day.
The league has lined up 10 games this weekend with Chileka Sisters meeting Chilomoni Sisters whereas Vicky Stars date Prison Sisters today.
