Queens under spotlight

Malawi Netball Queens’ face a litmus test as they compete in the Fast5 Netball World Series, minus influential skipper, Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, who is on maternity leave.

The goal-defender, renowned for her ability to break and initiate attacks, has been an integral part of the Queens since legendary goal-defender Judith Chalusa retired.

In Mtukule’s absence, Queens’ Coach, Griffin Saenda, has Tigresses’ Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango as the cover.

Mhango should partner Kukoma Diamonds’ Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda in defence with in-form Joanna Kachilika providing a defensive option.

At centre court, Diamonds’ Bridget Kumwenda could get the starting nod with Takondwa Lwazi of Blue Eagles Sisters and Thunder Queens’ Thandie Galeta-Saenda ready to step in when called to duty.

In attack, Malawi Queens have sole professional, Mwawi Kumwenda, and Joyce Mvula of Blue Eagles as possible starters.

Civonets’ Jane Chimaliro and Jessica Mazengera- Sanudi of Diamonds are the alternatives if the Queens would look for long-range shots. The games commenced in the wee hours of today.
