Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee has shifted Rainbow Paints Netball League matches that were slated to resume today to give teams ample time to rest following the return of Malawi National Netball Team players from the World Cup.
The league’s chairperson Vitumbiko Gubuduza said the change follows a request from some teams.
“We have received a number of complaints on fixtures that were shared for noting. It is, therefore, clear that both fixtures are not possible at this time.
“We are, therefore, postponing all games this weekend to give additional resting time to teams whose players were at the Netball World Cup,” she said.
Gubuduza said new fixtures will be shared this week for games slated for next weekend.
This will give all teams a chance to rest and start training for matches to take place next weekend at BYC, which is also the preferred venue,” she said.
Currently, Imosys, who recently defeated Blantyre Tremors 59-31 and Chileka Sisters 76-18, are topping the 12-member league with 16 points.
The side has also supplied two top shooters in the league at the moment.
Imosys goal shooter Dorcas Mbendera is the league’s second leading scorer with 265 baskets behind Tremors attacker Edna Natchengwa, who is leading with 274 baskets.
Another Imosys attacker Theodora Kaliwo is fourth with 180 baskets behind Chilomoni Sisters’ Felie Phiri.
Kukoma Diamonds shooter Grace Chazungulira is fifth with 170 baskets.
