Rainbow Paints Netball League reaches climax

As competition reaches its climax in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League, Kukoma Diamonds say they will not relent and be complacent in their remaining four fixtures.

Despite being displaced at the top of the table after midweek games, Diamonds Assistant Coach Noel Mussa said they were determined to win the championship of the 10-member league. The league contributes the bulk of talent to Malawi Netball Queens.

“All teams in the league are leaving no stone unturned. They are working hard to get the maximum points. We are aware that any little mistake could put us in trouble and relinquish the title,” Mussa said.

He further said they were drilling the players mentally and physically to cope with the impending pressure.

Diamonds, who are missing the services of Captain Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, have a star-studded squad comprising shooter Alinafe Kamwala and defender Vitumbiko Vinkhumbo-Kumwenda among many others.

Mussa also said they have been analysing each participating team in the league to avoid any surprise from them.

He was speaking before Diamonds surrendered their leadership to rivals Tigresses, who rose after thrashing Young Professionals 136-20 on Wednesday.

Tigresses have 33 points, but Diamonds can return to the top of the table as they have one game in hand having played 11 games against Tigresses’ 12.

Tigresses’ Assistant Coach Charles Mhango told The Nation on Wednesday that they were determined to stay top.

“It is our hope that we continue earning resounding victories because we know that the title winners might be determined through better score margins, that is, if we win all our remaining six games,” he was quoted as saying.

With shooter Sindi Simtowe-Msowoya inform, Tigresses look determined to push Diamonds all the way.
