Rainbow Paints to evaluate season
Rainbow Paints has promised to evaluate the success of the inaugural season of the Southern Region Netball League before making a commitment of sponsorship for next season.
Rainbow rescued the league with K4 million sponsorship after SRNL lost its sponsorship from OG Issa Group of Companies.
The firm’s representative, Kondwani Banda, said they were impressed with primary findings of how the league performed.
“The level of competition was stiff as most of the teams struggled to earn victories. Even the title has been decided on baskets’ difference and this reflects how stiff the competition was,” he said.
Banda’s remarks were in direct reference to Complex Tigresses who won the championship after pipping Kukoma Diamonds on baskets’ difference.
Both teams tied at 48 points.
Banda said Rainbow management would discuss the future of the league at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) vice-chairperson, Chimwemwe Kachingwe, thanked Rainbow Paints for supporting the league as it contributes many national team players.
“The league forms the benchmark of the national team,” she said.
SRNL vice-chairperson, Isaac Chimwala, said the league was impressive at the top and bottom.
“There were no easy matches both at the top and bottom table of the league,” he said
