Former TNM Super League side, Red Lions, continued to impress in the Thumbs Up Southern Region Football League with a 3-1 win over Wizards at Cobbe Barracks in Zomba on Sunday.
Lions went into the match having drawn 1-1 against White Eagles on Saturday in Blantyre and were eager to collect full points.
Forward Royal Bokosi struck in the 37th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at half time.
Boniface Kaulesi added the second goal just four minutes after resumption before completing the rout in the 58th minute.
Wizards’ Robert Mphezi scored the consolation goal with a minute to full time.
Lions Coach, Nelson Chirwa, said they were geared to fight for a return to the top flight league.
“Competition is very stiff in the league but we are working hard to collect as many points as we can. We need to return to the Super League next season.
“I have told my players to make sure we do not lose any game. The draw against White Eagles on Saturday was not what we had planned for,” Chirwa said.
Wizards owner and Coach, Peter Mponda, said his team’s performance was affected by their first choice goalkeeper’s injury.
“We accept the result and congratulations to Red Lions. They deserved to win this game. We just have to go back to the drawing board and find solutions to our problems,” Mponda said.
Lions top the table with 37 points after playing 14 games while Wizards are eighth with 26 points from the same number of games.
