Red Lions climbed up to fourth place in the TNM Super League standings following their 3-2 victory over Epac FC at Civo Stadium on Sunday.

The soldiers scored three second half goals to collect maximum points just a day after they drew three-all against Mafco at Chitowe.

It was Epac who had the better of the first half when they scored through a wonderful freekick from Dalitso Mwase.

But the second half belonged to the soldiers as Malumbo Mkandawire grabbed a brace and Mphatso Ngwira converted a penalty to secure a precious away win in the TNM Super League.

Gerald Nkungula’s late strike was not enough to earn Epac a point and Red Lions walked away with three points.

The soldiers have 20 points from 13 games above Azam Tigers on goal difference.

Mafco have moved to sixth on the log table while struggling giants Silver Strikers have dropped to position seven with 19 points from 13 games.

In a post-match interview, Red Lions coach, Collins Nkuna said his side should be counted as one of the serious title contenders this season despite missing eight players due to suspension.

“We have several quality players in our team and every player in the squad would love to prove a point that he deserves a place in the team,” said Nkuna.

On the part of Epac, the defeat against Lions was the second successive loss in the league.

Epac are still on position 11 in the league with 11 points from the same number of games.

However, coach Abasi Makawa was confident of avoiding relegation this season.

Big Bullets are still on top of the log table with 26 points followed by Mighty Be Forward Wanderers and Blue Eagles.
