Red Lions pip Moyale Barracks
Moyale Barracks’ hopes of winning the TNM Super League title continue fading as the soldiers lost at home 1-2 to their brothers in arms, Red Lions on Saturday.
Two second half goals from man-of-the-match Innocent Bokosi, were enough to leave Moyale Barracks dejected in a thrilling match played before a fairly attended crowd at the Mzuzu stadium.
The Kaning’ina soldiers featuring McDonald Harawa, in goals, Andy Kamwera, Lovemore Mitengo, Suwedi Limbani, in defence, drew, first blood 35 minutes into the first half through Deus Nkutu.
Nkutu, received a pass from Luka Muyaba then beat the Lions’ defense marshaled by Mphatso Ngwira, Chikoti Chirwa and others to give the GoTv champions the lead.
But Bokosi pulled one back in the 71st minute after he received a pass from Ndaona Limbani.
Bokosi came into limelight again to claim the winner in the 87th minute when he dribbled past the Mzuzu soldiers’ backline to make it 2-1.
Moyale tried to cancel the lead but the Lions tightened their defence and it ended 2-1.
“I thank God that I have managed to grab two goals today taking my tally to seven,” said Bokosi after receiving his man-of the-match accolade.
The win for the Zomba soldiers was a sad development to Moyale, who two weeks ago, also dropped points after drawing 1-1 against Big Bullets.
“Our goalkeeping was bad and this puts us on position 13 on the log table,” complained Moyale coach Nicholas Mhango.
Moyale have eight points on nine games played.
The Lions’ coach, Collins Nkuna, praised his boys. Lions now have 12 points from nine games.
