Red Lions wary of Mzuni FC

Having made a messy TNM Super League start last season, it is safe to suggest that Red Lions are, comparatively, able to roar again on the pitch this campaign.

Lions are on third place on the log table with four points from two games, thanks to their strikers in chief, Kumbukani Mwambene and Innocent Bokosi’s red-hot form.

Bokosi grabbed the first hat-trick of the season in a 4-1 demolition of Blantyre United whereas Mwambeni netted once in a 1-1 draw against Premier Bet Wizards.

However, Lions Coach, Mike Kumanga, knows that such a positive vibe to the season could change today if they do not get their tactics right against surprise leaders, Mzuni at Mzuzu Stadium.

“With Mzuni, your game-plan can be rendered useless. They have good players. They are tough customers so we will go to Mzuzu cautiously,” Kumanga said on Thursday.

Kumanga is cautions because last season’s league meetings between the two teams ended in draws.

Today, the visitors are likely to partner Mwambeni and Bokosi in attack behind the midfield of Chikoti Chirwa, McPeter Makwale and Loti Chawinga.

Benesi Kaisi should lead the backline comprising Gift Nkhonjera and Mphatso Ngwira. Clement Mlombwa is tipped to get the nod between the sticks.

Ahead of the game, Mzuni Coach, Alex Ngwira, also put last season’s results against the soldiers into the contest.

“The fact that we are at our backyard means more pressure on us. Our fans are growing in numbers and they would be expecting nothing short of a win,” said Ngwira who will once again rely on Captain, Luwayo Kayira, to drive the students from the midfield.

Lazarus Nyemera bagged a double in last week’s 3-0 punishment of Mafco so he should lead the frontline in company of Hudson Milanzi.
