Regional volleyball chairperson resigns

Central Region Volleyball League (CRVL) Committee Chairperson, Robert White, has resigned from his position after falling out with some officials.

In a two-paged letter dated February 17, 2017, and addressed to all committee members, White said he quit after a thoughtful reflection of his ideals.

He attributed his resignation to the conduct of committee members, saying it was not in line with his beliefs, standards and aspirations in leading the sport in the region.

“There have been clear divisions and lack of common agenda among members into different blocs within the committee. Under such circumstances, it is very difficult for us to promote a common agenda,” reads part of the letter.

White faulted his working relationship with key individuals in the committee as having deteriorated.

He cited instances where he could come out to disassociate the committee with positions and communications from the league’s General Secretary, Trust Mtegha.

“I have little tolerance for mediocrity especially in managing affairs of voluntary and professional bodies. Much as it was my responsibility to discipline and rectify such malpractices, I have never wanted to turn the committee into a battlefield because such tendencies border on personality and personal egos and not on objectivity,” added the letter.

Mtegha, confirmed receiving the letter but declined to take further questions.

“We got the letter on Saturday and we will be meeting to map the way forward. But I cannot say much because my position has been mentioned as having contributed to the resignation,” he said.

The development comes at a time when the league is struggling for resources to conduct a prize presentation ceremony for the 2016 season.

CRVL is the most competitive league with its teams winning all national competitions over the years. The region has strong teams such as Kamuzu Barracks.
