The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), sponsors of Silver Strikers, has challenged the team to win the TNM Super League championship.
RBM Governor, Dalitso Kabambe, made the remarks after handing over a 30-seater bus to Silver at the central bank’s headquarters in Lilongwe on Friday.
“While the bank is doing well, we are happy that the team is also doing the same. We have high hopes that the team will get the league title. I am sure the league will be a better gift for me. It was very easy to convince the board [to buy the bus] because of the team’s good run of form, having won the Airtel Top 8 Cup this season,” Kabambe explained.
“If you do not win, it would be difficult for us to convince the board to invest more resources [in the team], but we are heavily expectant that you will bring the league.”
Kabambe assured the team of support in its goals such as participating in the Confederations of African Football Champions League in the near future.
The governor also said the bank had set aside funds for the electronic ticketing project at Silver Stadium to curb gate revenue fraud.
After receiving the bus, Silver Board of Directors Chairperson, Kelvin M’mangisa, said the donation would motivate players to fight for the league championship.
“Words would fail to express my gratitude. I am really happy and I urge the players to work extra-hard to reward the sponsor,” M’mangisa said.
Silver Team Manager, Francis Songo, said his charges were determined to win the league this season.
