Forward Richard Mbulu has said he is ready for the challenge of playing in the lower league of Portugal next season.
Recently, the former Mafco goal-poacher signed a three-year deal with Portuguese lower division side, Associacao Desportiva Saojoanense, from Costa do Sol in Mozambique.
But the versatile Flames striker is still in the country as he awaits the issuance of his resident visa.
“I am excited to have clinched this deal. I am not under pressure to deliver in Portugal because this is my job. However, I am aware that expectations among fans will be high and I promise to work hard so as not to disappoint my fans,” said last year’s TNM Super League golden boot award winner.
Mbulu, who has, so far, scored once for the national football team, believes his move to Portugal is the beginning of good things to come.
“To play in the national team is at the discretion of the coach. So, if I would be in his plans, I am ready to help my country. I hope that playing in Portugal would up my game so that I can give back to my country,” Mbulu said.
He also said that playing in Mozambique helped to prepare him for his career in Portugal.
“In Mozambique, their league is advanced compared to ours here. As a professional footballer, I have learnt a lot and I don’t see anything that would prevent me from playing in any country in the world,” he said.
