rio impresses in TNM golf
Saka, Beatrice Mangwana and James Chimwaza won various categories of TNM Contract Golf Tournament staged at Mulanje Sports Club on Saturday.
Saka won the championship for the men’s section after scoring 37 points to beat 74 golfers.
Nestor Msowoya finished on second place after he was counted in with 36 points. Lester Tandwe, also with 36 points, was counted out and he finished on third position.
Saka paid tribute to senior players that graced the occasion, saying they provided a benchmark for the sport.
“I would like to thank all the senior players for setting the standards and we are learning from them. Above all, I would like to thank TNM for a well-organised tournament,” he said.
In the ladies’ section, Mangwana triumphed with 34 points, followed by Cathy Matura on second place with 33 points.
Mangwana said she did not expect to win the ladies’ category title.
“I just came to have fun with my friends. But at some point I got a birdie and I realised that I could win. I am delighted because I have been a TNM customer for many years,” she said.
The seniors’ category produced the day’s most points after Chimwaza posted 38 points to emerge victorious.
“Golf is a game of the mind. Eighty percent you have to focus and I just did that,” he said.
In a category that involved TNM employees, Harriet Mariani emerged the best with 32 points.
TNM Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Daniel Makata, said they sponsored the tournament under the auspices of TNM Contract.
“Basically, we also wanted to interact with our clients and share with them the goodness of TNM Contract, which has packages for personal and business customers,” he said.
