Robert Ng’ambi, Gabadinho’s Mhango South Africa’s teams progress
Robert Ng’ambi and Gabadhino Mhango will continue earning continental football experience following the progression of their South African teams in Confederation of African Football (Caf) competitions over the weekend.
Ng’ambi featured for Platinum Stars as they saw off Mozambican side UD Songo 1-0 in Maputo on Saturday to progress to the first round of the Confederation Cup 2-0 on aggregate.
The Flames’ midfielder scored in Stars’ 1-0 first leg win in South Africa last week to ensure their progression to the first round.
Stars, whose other Malawian player Gerald Phiri Jnr was not registered for the continental competition, scored through Ndumiso Mabena on Saturday.
The loss ended the journey in the competition for other Malawians, Charles Swini and Frank Banda who play for Songo.
However, the journey in the Champions League continues for player-of-the moment Mhango, who was in action as Bidvest Wits defeated Saint Louisienn of Reunion Islands 2-0 in South Africa on Saturday.
Wits advanced to the first round 4-3 on aggregate after losing 2-1 in the first round when Mhango was on target last week.
However, another Malawian Lawrence Majawa has exited the Champions League after his Township Rollers of Botswana drew 4-4 against CNaPS Sport of Madagascar on aggregate.
The former Be Forward Wanderers’ captain was in the thick of things as Rollers defeated Sport 3-2 at National Stadium in Gaborone on Saturday afternoon.
