Flames midfielder Robert Ng’ambi claimed his second goal of this South Africa Absa Premiership campaign when he helped Platinum Stars to a 3-1 upset of SuperSport United at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ng’ambi, Sibusiso Msomi and Bongi Ntuli’s goals took Stars to the summit of the 18-member South Africa league on 14 points from six games. Jeremy Brockie pulled one back for SuperSport.

However, during Saturday’s game, Ng’ambi’s compatriot, Robin Ngalande, was an unused substitute for Stars.

In another match involving Malawians, veteran striker Esau Kanyenda did not play for Polokwane City as they lost 2-1 to Chippa United also on Saturday.

On Thursday, Micium Mhone was denied a debut for Jomo Cosmos as they lost 1-0 to Bloemfontein Celtic. Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango did not feature for Celtic, who scored through Ugandan Geoffrey Massa.

Last week, Celtic coach Clinton Larsen said he was pleased with his strikers, Mhango, Eric Lamola, Massa and Mozambican Helder Pelembe.

“Geoffrey has got the great shot and he plays with his back to goal and Pelembe’s movement is good. Lamola is tricky in possession and Mhango is very, very quick so we got four very different type of strikers and it augurs well for us moving forward,” Larsen told Kick-Off football magazine.
