South Africa-based forward, Robin Ngalande, has been named as an Ambassador for Lilongwe’s Chigoli Academy.
According to a press statement from Chigoli, the former Atletico Madrid and Mamelodi Sundowns’ youth player met Chigoli officials last week to discuss on how they can work together.
“The 23-year-old Malawian forward is in a unique position among Malawian footballers having experienced first-hand the training and player development methods at an elite European side while training alongside global stars such as Deigo Costa, Jose Antonio Reyes, Radamel Falcao and Arda Turan,” reads part of the statement.
“While Robin never made a first team appearance at Madrid, the education and experience makes him ideal to help young Chigoli players understand the reasons why coaches at the academy deliver key coaching points that are basic requirements at a global elite level.”
Ngalande is on the verge of leaving Wits having failed to impress while on loan at Platinum Stars last season.
His agent, Paul Mitchell, confirmed that his client was looking for some options.
After visiting Chigoli training session over the weekend, Ngalande was reportedly impressed with the academy.
“Chigoli is giving the youth a great platform and inspiration on how to achieve and fulfil their goals and dreams. Most of them are tactically and technically brilliant and that is a sign of being at a proper development structure. Educated football players are always good people off the field and better players on the field because they have a better understanding of life. I am glad that these talented youngsters are encouraged to work hard both at school and on the field [of play],” Ngalande was quoted saying.
Chigoli also works on players’ education and character development to ensure they become well-rounded individuals.
