Midfielder Robert Ng’ambi scored for Platinum Stars, who handed another Malawian Robin Ngalande a rare substitute appearance in South Africa on Sunday.
Stars beat Polokwane City 3-0 during the South Africa Absa Premier Soccer League match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Ng’ambi scored in the 78th minute, eight minutes after replacing Letlandi Madubanya, where as Ngalande was introduced for Msibusane Zongo with five minutes to full-time.
It was Ng’ambi’s fourth league goal of the season, making him a leading Malawian scorer in the South African league. Esau Kanyenda was conspicuously missing for City.
Stars also scored through Sibusiso Msomi and Tlou Segolela to move within two points of fourth-placed champions, Kaizer Chiefs. City dropped one spot to 13th on standings after 18 games.
In other games involving Malawians, Limbikani Mzava was, after missing two games, restored to Mpumalanga Black Aces defence as they drew against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday.
Still on Saturday, Micium Mhone was brought in the 73rd minute for Wiseman Maluleke as their relegation-threatened Jomo Cosmos lost 2-1 to Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday night.
