Malawian striker Robin Ngalande has opened his scoring account in the Azerbaijan Premier League as his side defeated Sumgavit 2-0 last week.

The former Civil Sporting Club and Masters Security FC striker also provided an assist to Botswana striker Mpho Kgaswane during the game.

According to Ngalande’s manager Paul Mitchel of Siyavuma Sports Group, the Flames striker has made a bright start to his career in the Azerbaijan Premier League.

“Mpho Kgaswane got to the end of Robin Ngalande’s ball to score a cracker for his club Zira against Sumgavit,’’ reads part of a message posted on Siyavuma Sports Group’s Facebook page.

Former Civo United defender Willy Cham’bwinja said Ngalande is still a good player who can perform at top level.

“He is a talented player and I am not surprised that he is doing well in Europe. If he works hard on his game, he will continue playing at top level,’’ Cham’bwinja said.

Ngalande came into the limelight when he played for Malawi under-17 at the African Youth Championship in Algeria some nine years ago.

His outstanding performance caught the eye of South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Mamelodi Sundowns, who signed him for their academy.

Ngalande went on to star for Atletico Madrid’s youth side after shining for Sundowns during a youth tournament in Spain.

But he returned to South Africa after about two years to join Bidvest Wits on a two-year loan deal.

A move to local side Masters Security followed, before he went back to the Rainbow Nation for a career at Baroka FC.
