Malawi National Football Team Coach, Ronny van Geneudgen, has disclosed that he will make some changes to his starting lineup for Tuesday’s Cosafa Cup group match against Mauritius in Rustenburg, South Africa.
The development comes in the wake of his team’s 2-0 loss to Tanzania in Sunday’s opening match.
The Flames must collect full points this afternoon to keep alive their chances of reaching the quarterfinals.
Geneudgen said he was not pleased with how the Flames started the campaign.
“This match had two faces and I am very disappointed. We had the home face at the start of the match. I didn’t recognise the Malawian team because we always play a passing game.
“There was a good atmosphere and good team spirit in our camp but when we got into the game on Sunday, there was nothing like that. The team had no confidence and I think most of my players were not composed. This gave our opponents room to attack us,” he said.
Geneudgen said he changed tactics after Tanzania scored two early goals but it was too late to rescue the match.
“We had a different Malawi after pep talk. We managed to create good chances through [Yamikani] Chester and Lucky [Malata] twice. It was sad that we couldn’t convert them. So this should be a wake-up call for everybody.
“We started a few weeks ago with a good passage of play. We would like to build up from there. I am sure we will react accordingly against Mauritius,” the Belgian said.
Dalitso Sailesi was the Flames’ most outstanding player as he fetched balls from the backline to initiate some dangerous attacks.
