Malawi National Football Team Coach, Ronny Van Geneugden, Tuesday claimed that he and his backroom staff are in total control of player selection for the team, denying reports of external influence.

Speaking at a press briefing held at Bingu National Stadium, the Belgian said he is in full control of all issues to do with player selection.

“I do not know anything about what used to happen before. I only can speak about what is happening now. Selection of players is the responsibility of the panel that I head together with the Technical Director (John Kaputa),” Geneugden said.

The Belgian then went on to dodge questions about the team’s captain.

“I am sorry guys. It is not possible to say anything about the captain now but it will be one of the players in camp,” he added.

This means the future of Mzava as captain is uncertain.
