Rumphi United opt for Big Bullets legend

Rumphi United have earmarked Nyasa Big Bullets legend Gilbert Chirwa to head the team’s coaching panel ahead of their debut in the TNM Super League.

This follows the departure of coach Christopher Nyambose, who left the club following contractual differences.

Rumphi United General Secretary Jones Mackton said, following an emergency meeting held on Wednesday, the executive committee agreed to hire Chirwa, who was coaching relegated Mzuzu Warriors last season.

“We, as Rumphi United, are set to announce that we will be with Mr Gilbert Chirwa as our head coach. We are tightening the deal,” he said.

Chirwa’s phones were out of reach.

Meanwhile, Mackton has said they were bitter with the manner Nyambose left the club.

“We don’t know the actual reasons because he just left the technical WhatsApp group on Tuesday. We are hearing reports that he has returned to his former club. We don’t want to stand in his way but we are bitter with him because our plans and preparations have been be disturbed. Nevertheless, we wish him all the best,” he said.

Nyambose was reluctant to comment but said he had no issues with Rumphi United following his sensational return to Chitipa United.

“I am just home in Chitipa. I will come back to you,” Nyambose said.

Rumphi United emerged champions of the Simama and Sons Northern Region Football Association Premier Division to qualify for the Super League.
