Ruth Chisale eyes two belts in Germany

Boxer Ruth Chisale faces American Layla McCarter for two belts at Wildpark Stadion- Karlsrushe in Germany on June 16.

One of Chisale’s managers, Steve Mawenzi Msiska, confirmed the development, saying she will vie for Global Boxing Union and Women’s International Boxing Federation belts against McCarter.

“We have accepted the offer because it gives Ruth a chance to improve her rating. If she wins these belts, it means that she will not be required to go through an elimination fight when challenging for belts such as WBC [World Boxing Council],” Msiska said.

Last year, Chisale made history when she became the first female Malawian boxer to fight in Europe.

She dented Ornella Domini’s winning record when she won on unanimous points in Geneva, Switzerland.

Chisale said she was delighted to return to the ring, following her controversial loss to Zambian Loleta Muzeya during a recent World Boxing Council Gold elimination fight.

“I am still longing for that belt so I will make the most of this fight. Of course, I have been told that I will meet an experienced boxer. However, I am not moved,” she said.

McCarter, 39, has won several belts. She fights under the nickname Amazing.

The American has 41 wins, including 11 knockouts, 13 defeats and five draws whereas Chisale, 20, has 10 wins, including six knockouts, and a loss.

Chisale’s compatriot and stable-mate, Ellen Simwaka, faces Simangele Hadebe of South Africa in an African Boxing Union (ABU) bantamweight title fight on Friday at Portuguese Hall in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Simwaka hopes to emulate Anisha Bashir who won ABU super lightweight title after stopping Consolata Masunga of Kenya in the ninth-round in December.
