Ruthless Complex Tigresses maul Diamonds

Complex Tigresses delivered strong title desire when they tore apart Diamonds 39-29 in a Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League match at Blantyre Youth Centre on Saturday.

The win underlined Tigresses’ aspirations for this season as they seek to reclaim the league championship they lost on the closing day of last season.

Diamonds, who were without their influential coach Griffin Saenda, struggled for the better part of the match.

However, they cannot use Saenda’s absence as scapegoat as last season Diamonds defeated Tigresses in absence of the revered coach.

Although, Diamonds felt umpires were against them, they should realize that the margin could have been more devastating if Tigresses had utilised most of their chances.

The league leaders managed to breakthrough Diamonds defence at will only to needlessly lose possession when Diamonds defenders were caught off guard.

In-form Tigresses led the first quarter 10-6 before extending the lead to 19-14 at half time.

Goal shooter Ellen Chibokho and goal attacker Sindie Simtowe rotated roles as they penetrated Diamonds ring at will while wing attacker Rose Saili and centre Licy Akidu-Fiwa were available to supply telling passes.

Diamonds goalkeeper Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda and goal-defender Carol Mtukule-Ngwira were aggressive and gave away some needless fouls while upfront Grace Chazungulira and Jessica Mazengera- Sanudi were not at their best.

Tigresses coach Peace Chawinga- Kalua, who has just been named as the new Malawi Queens coach, said despite winning her charges did not execute 100 percent of the instructions.

“It’s good that we have won. Otherwise, the players followed about 60 percent of the instructions we gave them,” she said.

Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa said they were disappointed with the result but vowed to bounce back.
