RVG praises Yamikani Chester, Robin Ngalande moves

By Mphatso Malidadi:

Malawi national football team Coach, Ronny van Geneudgen (RVG), hopes the Flames will benefit from its two recent exports to Europe and North America.

The country’s football fraternity has, in the past week, seen two of its prominent stars making moves to overseas clubs.

TNM Super League player of the 2018 season, Yamikani Chester, flew to the United States (US) to join North Carolina FC on loan whereas Robin Ngalande has secured an 18-month deal with Zira FC of Azerbaijan in Europe.

Chester signed a three-year contract with Czech Republic side MFK which loaned him out to North Carolina.

In his reaction to the transfers, RVG said he was hopeful that both Chester and Ngalande will help improve the Flames’ performance.

“This is very big news for Malawi football. That Chester is going out to play in the US is fantastic. Like everybody knows, the US is a growing competition. In the last 10 years, they have invested in accommodation, stadiums and also in players and coaches.

“They are getting closer to European standards and this is a very big opportunity for Chester. It is a new step forward in his career. Personally, I feel he had a very strong season with [Be Forward] Wanderers and the national team. I think it is an advantage for Malawi football. We will use this experience for the games he will play for the national team,” he said.

Turning to Ngalande, who has been hunting for a club for six months after parting ways with South African Premier Soccer League side Baroka FC, RVG asked the attacker to work hard to regain his form.

“We are also happy to hear that Robin has finally found a team in Europe after six months of hunting. He can now start training with the group and also work hard to regain his form,” he said.

RVG said the two should strive towards promoting Malawian football through their performances at the foreign clubs.
