Malawi under-23 national football team players received a timely boost after Flames Coach Ronny van Geneudgen’s (RVG) friends donated sports equipment to the players.

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Executive Committee member, Rashid Ntelera, disclosed this after the under-23 side arrived in Egypt from Belgium where they were on camp training.

Ntelera, who is the under-23 leader of delegation, said most of RVG’s friends, who are technical directors for some top teams in Belgium, mobilised resources to donate to the players.

“As Fam, we are very grateful for that gesture. I know that we try our best to make equipment, such as boots, available to the players but there are many players called to camp,” he said.

Ntelera said they were encouraged by the junior Flames performance in Belgium, where they played six games, won, drew and lost twice each.

“We hope that the boys will give us good results when we meet Zambia,” he said.

The under-23 date the Young Pharaohs on Friday in a final preparatory match before playing against Zambia on March 20 and 26 in Blantyre and Lusaka in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
