Safintra donates 45 iron sheets
Safintra Malawi has donated 45 iron sheets and eight ridges worth K600,000 to Northern Region Police Headquarters to be used in renovating houses of some officers at Mzuzu Police Camp.
The donation came as a response to the Vice President Saulosi Chilima’s appeal in January this year after a hailstorm destroyed 11 houses at the camp.
Government through Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) rehabilitated the affected houses but still appealed for more support to rehabilitate other houses, which are in bad state.
Speaking in an interview after presenting the donation, Safintra Brand and Promotions Manager, Akash Deep, said his company decided to respond to the appeal after they read in The Daily Times about the incident.
“We believe in giving back to society. The affected families are our customers. We are all supposed to move forward, hence the donation,” Deep said.
Commissioner of Police responsible for the Northern Region, Effie Kaitano, commended Safintra for being the first to support Malawi Police Service (MPS) outcry.
Kaitano then appealed to well-wishers to support the MPS in rehabilitating the dilapidated houses at Mzuzu Police Camp.
“We thank Safintra for being the first to support us after Chilima made the appeal. We are going to use the iron sheets to rehabilitate other houses. We want to rehabilitate them because we do not know what will happen if the heavy rains came again,” Kaitano said.
