Saidi, Limbani in Knockout Cancer bout

By Mphatso Malidadi:

Lilongwe-based boxer, Dickson Saidi, is scheduled to meet national super welterweight champion, Limbani Masamba, in a 12-round Knockout Cancer bout at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex on Friday.

Speaking during a press briefing at CoM on Saturday which organisers No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions and other partners arranged to update the country’s boxing fraternity on the progress of the bill, Saidi said Masamba has kept the title for too long and it is time he relinquishes it.

The challenger, 25, has fought nine times with five wins including three knockouts. He has lost twice.

“I have been given the opportunity to get the title from Limbani. He has been dodging me for some time and now I have come to his Blantyre base to teach him some manners,” Saidi said.

However, Masamba, 28, boasting 20 wins including eight knockouts and five defeats, said he has been looking forward to trading punches with Saidi.

“I know he is a good boxer but I am equally ready to give him a thorough beating,” he said.

No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions Managing Director, Craig Rousseau, said the fight was also aimed at reviving the sport in Blantyre.

But Rousseau expressed concern that wooing the corporate world to support the sport is a big challenge.

“It will be a corporate event. Internationally, most bouts are held on Friday nights and this is the reason the bill will be staged at night. We also plan to do it in partnership with Hope for Cancer Foundation,” he said.

CoM Sports Complex Sales and Marketing Manager, Jimmy Kulemeka, said they are supporting the bill as they want to promote all sporting codes in the country.

Bowler Beverages Operations Manager, Ricky Bowler, said the company has been swayed by the objectives of the bill, hence its support.

Other members of the corporate world that are supporting the bout are Kwese TV, Aqua-Pure, Vision Gaming, Nyasa Manufacturing Company and Horizon Health.
