Salima referee savours award
Salima-based up-and-coming referee, Godfrey Nkhakananga, has said he is excited to be named third best referee for the 2017 TNM Super League season.
Nkhakananga trailed Bernadetter Kwimbira Nzika and Ishmael Chizinga, who finished on second and first positions, respectively, during the gala held at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on friday.
The 23-year-old Chipoka Secondary School teacher assured the football family that he will strive to give out his best when applying Laws of the Game.
“I am very happy that my effort to improve the game through competent and unbiased officiation has been noticed, and I would like to assure everyone that I will not disappoint come 2018 season,” Nkhakananga said.
A holder of a bachelor’s degree in humanities obtained from Chancellor College, Nkhakananga said he appreciates that officiation is a core component of football.
“Moving with times and having an open mind for learning is one of the principles which I follow so that I should excel,” he said.
Salima-based Super League of Malawi Executive Committee Member, Godfrey Makawano, said he was happy for Nkhakananga, who usually officiates games played in Dwangwa—home of Mafco and Dwangwa.
“It is encouraging that someone from a rural area of Chipoka can be spotted at such a large scale. My word of encouragement to all referees in districts is that they should always apply the laws of the game when given assignments and think also of upgrading themselves,” the former Mafco player and official said.
